Discussion
Questions:
· First reactions—what do you think? Like it? What does it have to do with freedom?
· What do you think about the names—Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter?
· Why do you think Peter disobeys? Why don’t the others—just because they were “good” and Peter was “naughty”?
· What do you think about the clothes? What about what happens to Peter’s—caught in the nets, the scarecrow, the mom’s reaction, etc.?
· What do you think about Mr. McGregor?
· How does the food factor into Peter’s situation?
· What about the pictures—how do they help tell the story?
· What do you think all the other animals are about—the birds that encourage him, the mouse with the pea in her mouth, the cat he avoids?
· What about the sobbing and crying? Do you think crying helps or hurts Peter?
· What is the book saying about freedom? What is it, how is it discovered? What does it mean to be free?
· Are Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail free?
